We specialise in caring for sibling groups and children under 12, unless an older child is part of a sibling group. Our aim is to keep brothers and sisters together whenever it is safe and in their best interests. Hygge recognises the lifelong importance of sibling bonds and the harm caused by unnecessary separation.

 

Children suitable for placement at Hygge are typically:

​

• aged from birth to 12 years, or part of a sibling group including a younger child;

• looked-after children requiring medium to long-term care in a foster home but there are none available, a therapeutic home rather than residential crisis or secure provision;

• children who may have experienced developmental trauma, attachment disruption, neglect or emotional harm;

• those who would benefit from consistent, nurturing adults who can model safety, curiosity, and playfulness;

• children whose emotional or behavioural needs can be met safely within a small, relational team structure.

 

Hygge is not designed for children whose primary needs relate to significant violence, high-risk sexualised behaviour, self-harm or acute mental health crisis requiring hospital-based treatment.
